South Africa, food, plaatkoekies, Pannekoek, Malva pudding, Dom Pedro, beskuit, breakfast, and traditional recipes in South Africa

Shedding light on life in South Africa is the breakfast, desserts, snacks and drinks. Easy for anyone, please. Breakfast ranging from "mieliepap" and "beskuit". "Mieliepap" is the same consistency of a slurry of corn flour and served with a teaspoon of butter, sugar and milk. And a hearty breakfast and healthy fats to see you through the morning hours. "Beskuit" are the Rusks, the cooked pasta in the oven, then breaking up again in the oven to dry. Breakfast perfect, especially for those living in farms, and homemade rusks dipped in your morning coffee. If you like more than tea, try the great local tea herbal called "wise"
During the morning you can chew on some "biltong" which is salty dried meat or "droƫwors", which is dried sausage. You can not see the rugby or cricket match without this salty snack. Now it is Time for more coffee served with banana, gingerbread corn, buttered. Bread is bread Mealie, sweet, and bread with sweet corn. And you may wonder why we have such an obsession corn? Well, corn is the basic staple foods in Africa. We use to make breakfast, bread, chips (or chips) and many others.

After completing this, it is time for the day Ogpetk main. It is then the best path and candy. Most bakery desserts and pastries served with cream or ice milk, special sauce. Dessert, Malva is one of my favorites in the old days, a large sweet spongy apricot dessert with sweet and sour sauce beautiful. Cottage pudding is a type of cake dessert served with special white wine sauce.

If you prefer a colder dessert, this is the place to be. Enjoy the fresh fruit salad with ice cream, made from local fruits in season. The most famous fruits are grapes, apples and naartjies (a type of tangerine), peaches, apricots, mangoes, melons and many others. There is nothing more refreshing than the authority of fresh fruit. If you like ice cream, and there are special treats in store for you too. Try the watermelon or papaya flavored ice cream in a cone or on its own.

As a special treat, why not try Dom Pedro? This is ice cream with a little drop of milk and a glass of whiskey from your favorite liqueur. Try Amarula liqueur, made from the marula fruit or van der Hum liqueur strong, made from fresh naartjies. It's a treat you should not pass.

Later in the afternoon you can enjoy "Koeksisters", a delicacy too sweet. Afrikaans "Koeksisters" are twisted pastries, donuts, and sweet with a very sweet sauce. Another of my favorites is "ystervarkies", sponge, dipped in chocolate sauce homemade, rolled in coconut! Does not seem to be just wonderful?

If you prefer something less sweet, try "melktert" (milk tart). This is a sour milk, absolutely wonderful if you eat hot, just as it is done. If you want something tasty, try "souttert" (savory tart) consisting mainly of Vienna sausages, cheese, onions, herbs and eggs.

In the evening you can enjoy one of the best known foods, "vetkoek". It is a treat. You can enjoy the "vetkoek" in three ways. Dunk in your butter, cheese, tea, syrup or stuffed with minced meat curry. Whichever you choose, you will not be disappointed. If you are looking for something small, try "plaatkoekies" (almost like a small cake) served with pot or syrup or maybe try some pancakes with cinnamon sugar?

During the day and you will not go thirsty. If you like hot drinks, and there are many types of strong coffee, regular tea, "sage" tea and hot chocolate and my favorite, Mello. This is a drink rich in vitamins and minerals, milk hot or cold. If you prefer cold drinks, try the various ice juice, tea. Guava, oranges and grinadella, fruit cocktail, grapes, peaches, pears, apples, apricots, mangoes are a few options you have in fruit juices. Must be guava, mango, two of the most popular options.

If you are looking for a bottle of wine to accompany your meal, and there are hundreds of local Cape wines to choose from. Is spoiled for choice. Make sure you try as much as you can and enjoy the hospitality while visiting the rainbow country, South Africa.

These are just a few traditional recipes that we have a large. There are more than trying so many, so start now and enjoy!
